Developing websites on SharePoint 2010 and 2013 can be a bit difficult due to the ribbon and how the “wrapper” DIVs have been structured within the master page. And not only that, SharePoint 2010 sometimes clash with JQuery scripts which I have used a lot since there are a lot of cool controls that I often use for my website such as image carousel, etc.
Therefore, I have created a “base master page” which I use as a starting point for any web applications I need to build with SharePoint (eg. Internet Public Website or Intranet). You can download these base master pages for FREE.
I have also provided a bit of comments within the master page so you can easily identify which section is doing what.
To use it simply references:
– SP.css
– TFS.master (this is for your general master page)
– TFSSearch.master (this is for your Search master page)
You can simply copy and paste the content of TFS.master and TFSSearch.master to your custom master page then work your way up from there.
I also provide a sample website (it’s pretty much TFS Consulting Services’ website but developed on SharePoint). It has JQuery, etc so you can use it as a reference. The sample website are using the following master pages:
– TFSSample.master
– TFSSearchSample.master
There are also other images and javascripts files and are all related to the sample website.
Within the master page I’ve also auto-hidden the references to SharePoint Javascript and CSS files (eg. CORE.CSS, CORE.JS, etc) from anonymous users so your website will run faster. These Javascripts can be fairly large in size.
